What is a Back to Back Installation

Back-to-Back Installation (Standard Option)

A back-to-back installation is the most common and cost-effective setup for wall-mounted air conditioners. This means the indoor unit is mounted directly opposite the outdoor condenser, with only one wall separating the two. The refrigerant piping, drain, and electrical connections pass straight through the wall — keeping installation simple, neat, and efficient.

This layout is our standard installation option included in the quoted price for all midwall split units. If your setup requires additional piping, trunking, or a longer distance between the units, our team will assess your site and provide an updated quotation before proceeding.

What if my unit is not back-to-back?

If your indoor and outdoor units cannot be installed directly behind one another (back-to-back), we can still assist by extending the piping and cables to suit your layout. In some complexes or properties, the outdoor unit needs to be positioned out of sight

In these cases, Swift Air offers additional piping and trunking at an extra cost. Our team will assess your site and ensure the most practical and cost-effective solution, keeping your system neat, compliant, and operating efficiently.

What if there’s no electrical connection available?

Our standard installation does not include electrical wiring to the DB board. The air conditioner will be connected to the nearest existing power point if one is available. If no power supply is present, the client will need to arrange a new electrical connection with a qualified electrician — or we can assist in arranging one through our trusted partners.

Once payment is confirmed, our Swift Air team will contact you shortly to schedule your installation and ensure everything is prepared for a smooth setup.

What size air conditioner do I need?

The size of your air conditioner depends on the room size, ceiling height, insulation, and sunlight exposure. Choosing the correct size ensures optimal cooling, energy efficiency, and longer unit lifespan.

As a general guideline:

  • 9,000 BTU – up to 18 m² (small bedrooms or offices)
  • 12,000 BTU – up to 25 m² (medium rooms or living areas)
  • 18,000 BTU – up to 36 m² (large bedrooms or lounges)
  • 24,000 BTU – up to 48 m² (open-plan areas)

How to size my aircon?

If you’re unsure which capacity is best for your space, Swift Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Services can assist with a professional recommendation based on your room layout and cooling needs.
